guy just for raising policy questions? jon: john bolton took a lot of heat when he served as u.s. ambassador to the united nations. >> yeah. and toure said to me on twit wither, well, mccain called rice mentally inferior, which he never did. i said, well, when did she say this -- jon: i'm sorry to cut you off, but we have some breaking news. john boehner, the speaker of the house is speaking out now about the fiscal cliff, let's listen in. >> the bigger problem here, which is our national deficit and our national debt. this debt doesn't exist because we don't tax small businesses enough, it exists because washington continues to spend too much. and raising taxes on small businesses instead of taking a balanced approach that also cuts spending is wrong. it's only going to make it harder for our economy to grow. and if our economy doesn't grow, americans don't get new jobs. and the debt problem that we have will continue to threaten our children's future. as i said the day after the election, republicans are not seeking to impose our will on the president. we're seeking a bipartisa

john bolton, former u.s. ambassador to the u.n. and fox news contributor. ambassador, nice to see you again. >> good morning. glad to be with you, jenna. jenna: let's talk about when hillary clinton and leon panetta had to say. based on your experience, ambassador, overall what are the effects of personal scandal in international relations? is there any sort of fallout we should be watching? >> i think there can be fallout but at this point i think it would be premature to jump to any conclusions because the circumstances we're talking about are not full le known. i think one of the reasons that secretary panetta in particular has been at pains to say that general allen still has his confidence even though his nomination to head up the european command has been put on hold is because he is still in theater in afghanistan. i think general petraeus's problems are a little bit more remote although they could have an impact depending on what else comes out about perhaps breaches of security of documents and things given to the lady the general is having his affair with. jenna: that remain

, judy, what if george w. bush had told the press corps to stop picking on john bolton, his ambassador to the united nations? [laughter] >> right. discrimination against men with moustaches. [laughter] it is so absurd, and the president gets away with it, frankly, because we let him get away with it. there was ed henry of fox news, a couple other people trying to ask some hard questions, but he just swept them aside, and that format is death for getting to the bottom of an affair. that's why we really do need to know in detail, either a select committee or some other venue, what the administration has said about what happened in benghazi that night, whether or not they were attempting to mislead the american people about what happened to make their re-election more likely. i mean, these are questions that are not going to go away even though the administration would like them to go away. jon: yeah. because if susan rice wasn't connected at all to the benghazi incident, why did they put her on the sunday morning shows? >> right. that's an obvious question. [laughter] it's suc
